History

The International Business School “Kelajak Ilmi” (IBS) was founded in 1991 by the professors of the Tashkent State Economic University , the University of Arkansas (U.S.) and the Republic of Uzbekistan 's Ministry of Higher and Secondary Education.

In 1991, 20 students were selected to continue their education in the U.S. The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan , Islam Abduganievich Karimov, sponsored the education of 20 students. Since then, more than 200 students have continued their education in the Universities in the United States and United Kingdom.

Originally, IBS offered a one-year business program that developed basic accounting and English language skills. As Uzbekistan began its transition to a “market economy,” the demand for business people with knowledge of international accounting standards and English increased.

A two-year accounting program was then established with assistance of the professors at Nottingham Trent University (U.K.). In 1995, the European Union TACIS program supported IBS “Kelajak Ilmi” in developing the “Manager's Assistant” and “Municipal Management” programs.

In 1997, IBS “Kelajak Ilmi” introduced a Business Administration (BA) program, based on International curricula. As more multinational companies established a presence in Uzbekistan and looked to the local workforce to fill new jobs, IBS “Kelajak Ilmi” recognized the need for a higher-level program reflecting these organizations' needs. IBS “Kelajak Ilmi”new BA program gives its graduates the skills necessary to complete in a market economy and to help develop the Uzbek economy.

In June 2001, the first group to complete the four-year bachelor program graduated. Today IBS graduates are employed by many foreign-owned companies/organizations in Uzbekistan , including: BAT Uzbekistan, PricewaterhouseCoopers, ABN AMRO Bank, Nestle Uzbekistan , Ernst & Young, Intercontinental and others.

IBS 'Kelajak Ilmi" fills a very crucial void within the education system of Uzbekistan.  The education offered is more than just lessons taught in English language, but IBS along with support of western guest lecturers, offer western ideas and additional ways of thinking.  We at Uz-Texaco are happy to support their activites through scholarships and other corporate responsibilities.
